Welcome! My name is Sadaf and i’m excited to share my passion of storytelling with you. Growing up in NYC, I was fortunate to meet women from all over the world, each of whom carried a unique story to share. Through this site, I hope to create a space where we can share our experiences, our battles alongside our victories.
The question I most often get asked is “Why exactly did you have this sudden urge to interview all these women? Why exactly are you doing this Sadaf?” I would pause and think “Why am I doing this?” And my answer was always the same. We all have brilliant stories of courage and strength and I needed to share these amazing journeys with you! I wanted to promote a culture of encouragement and strength, to encourage compassion rather than judgement, to teach each other the art of resilience and emotional strength.
Over the past few months, i’ve engaged in conversations with dozens of women from across the world and have to find one common theme in all of their stories; their struggle.
I realized that we’re all struggling; trying to somehow make all the pieces of our life fit together. We’re not perfect! We’ll never be perfect and we know it. Yet, we continue to persist, in an effort to strike some sort of balance. Some days are better than others. We all have moments of self-doubt. We feel ourselves becoming emotionally drained and start wondering if any of it is worth the effort. Yet with the beginning of each day, we renew our intentions and continue on with our battle.
Sometimes, through these struggles, we experience amazing transformations. We learn the lessons only a life filled with hardships can teach us. We notice ourselves slowly becoming more resilient, emotionally stronger, maybe even a bit wiser.
The courage to continue on struggling when it’s easier to quit is what drives my curiosity. I hope to somehow tap into that source of strength and then share it with everyone I know.
Will you share your stories, your struggles, your courage with us?
This blog is named after my late grandmother, Sakeenah. While, she wasn’t very educated herself, she had a vision for her family. She encouraged her 8 daughters to pursue careers and become contributing members of society. She raised them with piety and exceptional morals. Stories of her intelligence, humility, and strength continue to inspire me today.
I hope to bring to you stories of women like my grandmother, who have lived lives worth documenting, women who have fought their battles with grace. Through their narratives, I hope to cultivate in us the habit of resilience rather than that of defeat.
Most of the stories I share on the blog are done so anonymously. In an effort to maintain our contributors’ privacy, the names of the women have been changed. Our focus remains on their message, on their story.
So my question to you is, will you allow yourself to be become a source of inspiration for someone else? Will you share your stories, your struggles, your courage with us? I hope so!
Please email us at SakeenahBegumBlog@gmail.com or leave a message on our Facebook page if you would like to share your story.
